It is about 1am, I am lying on my bed, preparing to sleep, when the "orchestra" starts!
As you know, I am staying in a Dormitory, and this one is a huge one, consisting of 28 beds! But only about half are filled up, which means I am staying with another 15 other people (estimated) in the room. Well, it is a male dormitory, and somehow, guys usually snore (with some exceptions). The difference is the loudness and pitch, which make up the "Orchestra".
Among the "instruments", there is one which is very special, it sounds like THUNDER! It sounds as though he is sleeping right beside me! Oh my god! How am I going to sleep?
Due to my curosity, I get down from my bed and walk around the room, looking for that "talented" guy! Finally, I find him, haha! Well, what can I do to stop him snoring? I can't possibly wake him up, right?
Leaving with no choice, I go back to my bed, get some tissues from my bag, tear into small pieces, roll them into small lumps and stuff them into my ears. This is what we called improvised ear plugs! Finally, I get to sleep.
The story doesn't end there. Read on...
Everyday, there are many people checking in and checking out from the hostel. Most of them just stay for one night or two, not more. I, together with a Danish guy and a Turkish lady, are the exceptions! I am staying for 5 nights and the other two of them are staying to the maximum of 6 nights!
On the third day, there is this guy (his identity is kept confidential) checked in, who is only staying for one night. He is the ultimate! He doesn't snore, he roars! Haha!
This time round, something funny happens.
Remember that guy who snores like thunder? He couldn't sleep! He is walking around the room, searching for a quieter corner! But of course, he couldn't find it (we all know that sound travel very well in solid, the walls on the room is a very good "conductor" for the "roar"). So, this guy (finally) has a chance to taste what is like being disturbed by another person's snore. I guess he has to admit defeat! In Chinese, it says as 一山还有一山高.
A guy who is sleeping on the next bed beside the guy who "roar", I really pity him. He actually packed up, take his mattress, pillow and blanket, and get out of the room! I am wondering where can he sleep? Is he going to sleep in the open? After a short while, my doubt is cleared. He came back to the room with all his "barang barang", and get back to his own bed. Maybe, I should give him an advice to use tissue papers...hm...
Anyway, this is just a short episode of what happened to us in the hostel dormitory!
