I was waiting for Bus No. 5 (Opposite Senado Square), which will bring me to A-Ma Temple.
While I was busy looking at the bus directory on the bus stand, I heard a lady shouted in Cantonese, "Dad, dad, what are you doing? Are you OK? Dad...dad..."
I turned my head, and I saw an old man (aged around 70+) sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, unconscious. While the daughter (aged around 50) was trying hold him up, preventing him from falling on the ground.
Without second thought, I went forward to see what I could help (hey, coincidentally, I have just passed my "First Aid Course" on Friday 22-Aug-08). I was trying to apply what I have learnt in the course:
(1) Firstly, check for danger. Is there any falling objects which cause the casualty to faint? Obviously NOT!
(2) Went forward and tap on the old man's shoulder, and check for his response. Of course, no response! The daughter has been shouting and holding on to him.
(3) As the people at the bus stop started to crowd around the scene, I asked them not to come too close, give some air to the fainted cascualty. At the same time, a helpful man volunteered to call the ambulance, but he doesnt know the number to dial?!
(hm...is he a tourist too? No, he is a local, just that he has not called an ambulance before. So, do you know what number to call in your country, if you faced an emergency? If you dont, it is about time for you to find out. For all those in Singapore, the number to call for Ambulance is 995. Well in Macau, the number to call is 999)
(4) I began to search for my "famous" medicated oil (for those who know me, I always carry medicated oil with me, due to my sinus problem), but as in the first aid course, instructor Julie said that we should NOT use any form of ointment on the casualty, reason being the casualty may be allergy to that.
(5) Just when I was searching for the oil, the old man opened his eyes. Thanks God! He had regained his consciousness! So, we asked him whether he is alright. He said he is HUNGRY! Poor man, I wonder how long he has not been eating.
(6) As the bus stop is full of people, we (Daughter, myself and another helpful lady) helped the old man to stand up, and bring him to the side alley, to rest on the bench.
At that time, the bus no 5 arrived, and so I bid farewell to the daughter, and I went up the bus to head for A-Ma Temple.
This is my first encounter of such...and I am glad that I am able to help, although not much...hehe...
