Augusters Lodge (Macau)

Address: 24, Rua Do Dr. Pedro Jose Lobo, Kam Loi Building, Floor 3J, Block 4, Macau
Website: www.augusters.de
Goto the above website for updated information (like Phone Numbers, Email Address, and rates).

The hostel is owned by Richard, who has migrated to Macau for many years. Richard and his staff are all very friendly and helpful in giving you tips and directions on where to go, what to eat and so on.

The hostel consists of 3 dormitories, which double-decked beds in each room, and a common shower room and a toilet, to be shared by all. So, get ready to queue up for the toilet and shower room in the morning and evening.

Directions from Airport:
(1) Take bus MT1 from Airport. Please note that MT1 only operates at certain hours of the day. I think it does not operate after 8pm, and also dont operate in the middle of the day. MT1 should bring you to Grand Lisboa (which is a short 5 minutes walk to the hostel)
(2) Alternatively, walk to the right end of the Arrival Hall (where the car park is situated). Look for a mini-bus which display the sign of "Grand Emperor". The mini-bus will bring you Free of Charge to Grand Emperor Entertainment Centre (casino/hotel), which is 2 blocks away from the Hostel.
Look at the map as published here for the location map of the hostel (please note that Grand Emperor is on the left of Hotel Sintra, as shown on the map).

For the first night, the dormitories are fully booked, so Richard offered me a Lobby Bed (which is half the price of a Dorm Bed). So, what is a Lobby Bed? Hm..I was guessing, it is a Bed in a Lobby? Ya, something like that...This is my Lobby Bed (see picture). It is a canvas bed (no mattress) which is laid in front of the reception counter of the hostel.

Well, this is an interesting experience, whereby I am sleeping along the corridor. Looking at the picture, the dormitories are on the right side of the bed, whereas the kitchen, shower room + toilet, and the door is on the left of the bed. That means anyone who came back to the hostel at night, need to pass by my bed to get into the dormitory room. It also means all people must pass by my bed if they wish to use the toilet or shower facilities. So, can you imagine how much of interruptions of sleep am I experiencing? I can tell you, "MANY!" But fortunately, I was so tired on my first day that I slept regardless of the people moving around me.

On the second night, I managed to have a bed inside the Dormitory, and for once, I really appreciate the "luxury" of a dormitory bed! But those guys who were sleeping in the lobby, complain to me that they didn't sleep till 6am the next morning, due to the interruptions!

On the whole, I like Augusters Lodge, it is centrally located near to the main attractions of Macau. Just a 3 minutes walk to Senado Square, and an additional 5 minutes more to the Ruins of St Paul Church. If I go to Macau again, I would stay here. See you again, Richard!
