When you visit any of temples, you will be approached by a few (or even tens) of girls (of varying ages, from as young as 6-8 years old). All will say "Buy from me! Buy from me!" They wish that you can buy something from them, e.g. Books on Angkor Wat, Post Cards, Bracelets, Flute, Wood crafts and so on.
What I am amazed is their persistence and perseverance! They can follow you for hundred of metres and never give up!
I have witnessed an incident. There is a little girl (aged around 10 years old), been following three people (1 man, 2 ladies) for about 200 metres! I was near to them, so I know how long the little girl is following. At first, the 2 ladies show interest in the bracelets the little girl is selling, and that arouse the girl's interest in them, because they may be potential customers. The poor little girl was chasing after them, begging them to buy...and finally, the man cannot take the pestering, turned and scolded the girl. I got a shock, the man is so fierce! Come on, she is only a little girl, just tell her nicely. I almost wanted to go forward and stop that man, but...to my surprise, the girl is not intimidated! She was really cool, she just say some words to the man (which I cannot hear), and then she walked away.
I think they will make very good Sales Person, trained from young! Able to take rejections after rejections, and never give up!
I really hope that these kids can go to school instead of spending their time selling gifts/sovenuirs. After all, it may be easy money, but it will not bring them far.
